About the BFI National Archive

The BFI National Archive is home to the world’s most significant collection of film and television, with millions of items from the late 1900s to today.

But looking after film presents challenges. If stored incorrectly, celluloid can break, shrink, or decompose beyond repair.

The BFI’s expert archivists and technicians need 1,500 new film cans a year to safely store 16mm and 35mm film.

Just £5 buys a new can for the BFI National Archive – one that could hold one of Britain’s best loved films, an iconic series finale, or an underseen title yet to find an audience.

Give £5 today and keep our shared film history safe for decades to come.
